After a fruitful career as a chef in Seattle’s culinary scene, Derik Eggert pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a hairdresser, graduating from Seattle’s Aveda Institute in 2008. Even as he honed his own cutting and coloring skills, his thirst for knowledge quickly brought him back into the classroom, graduating once again as an Educator in 2011. From there, he has guided hundreds of students toward their dreams, as well as directing the training of fellow instructors as Lead Educator. Simultaneously, he built his career in one of Seattle’s top Aveda salons, and is deeply grateful for the incredible connections and unmatched mentoring that he embraced there over the course of nine years He is proud to bring his expertise, as well as his spirit of community and learning to Salon Tagua!
Throughout his career, Derik has traveled far and wide seeking a deeper understanding of Aveda’s cutting and coloring techniques. His haircuts are mindful and inspired by the world’s top stylists, including precise and stylish men’s cuts. As a colorist, he is a blonding specialist, executes brilliant reds, and loves to reveal the beautiful spectrum that brunette hair has to offer. He is fully trained and certified in the art of Balayage and the Brazilian Blowout, maximizing the finest details of your styling. His experiences styling for fashion shows and on a bridal team have been enriching, teaching him how to develop incredible styles that range from elegant to whimsical, all using Aveda’s naturally derived products. Most important to him is developing a rapport with each guest to suit their every need and concern about maintaining beautiful, expressive hair.
With Salon Tagua, Derik looks forward to continuing his dedication to Aveda’s message of global outreach and sustainability practices. Locally, his preservation efforts have raised over $50,000 for the Puget Soundkeepers Alliance throughout his career. Globally, he has cherished the opportunity to travel to India with the Aveda Earth Month team for mentoring and participation in their philanthropic efforts within the land and community that inspires the company’s ethics and product line. He feels blessed that his career with Aveda has allowed him to combine his passion for travel and his pursuit of higher education – be it guiding his students across the globe for advanced training from the UK’s top stylists, styling for Mercedes Benz at New York’s Fashion Week, or attending hair shows and trainings across the country. At the end of each day, his Midwest upbringing keeps him grounded and humble to the individual needs of each client – be it for their hair or soul! PASSION, BEAUTY, LOVE is what it’s all about at Salon Tagua!
Born and raised Washingtonian, I grew up in Snohomish county and this will forever be my home. I graduated from Gary Manuel Aveda Institute in 2018 and from there went straight into an advanced apprenticeship program at Salon Tagua. After 200+ models and hundreds upon hundreds of hours of extended education, I can confidently say that I am proud of where I’m at. I have been a stylist with Aveda from the start, after taking multiple classes in Aveda color, cutting and product line I am well diverse and very knowledgeable with this line.
I love to do dimensional colors, balayage, foilayage, all things blonde, brunettes, redheads. I love movement and that expensive looking hair.
When I think of hair, I don’t just see it as an outside accessory, I see it as an expression of someones inner core. I was intrigued by the hair industry because of the way I felt after having my hair done. What motivated me was the feeling of being your best self and feeling like you could accomplish anything with great hair. I knew if hair did that for me, that I could do that for others, giving the same feeling I love when I leave the salon. It’s truly special to be a part of that for someone else and I don’t take it lightly.

She will strive to grow as a stylist and looks forward to continuing her education at Salon Tagua.

Saddle up partner, because Caprica has the heart of a cowboy. Always “headed west” in search of room to spread their wings and manifest their dreams, that constant desire for continued growth, education, and refinement of their craft has led them to find their forever home at Salon Tagua – the best of Aveda that the Evergreen State has to offer.
It was quite the epic journey leading up to this point – Caprica always knew that if they were to choose ONE career, it had to be one where they could directly help other people. After graduating from high school in Snoqualmie, WA, Caprica moved to Seattle to study criminal justice with the goal of entering the FBI academy and “catching serial killers” (too many nights spent watching “X Files” perhaps). After two years of disillusionment, their classmates staged an intervention and demanded that Caprica follow their true passion – helping people feel at home in their own reflection by understanding them as people and tailoring their hair to compliment their truest selves!
To grow from custom cuts in the dorms, to precision shaping and tinting at a premier Aveda salon, Cap graduated from the Gary Manuel Aveda Institute in 2016, and further advanced their knowledge and career through Gary Manuel Salon’s internship program. Another few years were spent growing their business and establishing themself as Seattle Capitol Hill’s favorite multicolored “Hair Dad” at Salon Kismet! During this time they found their business was flourishing, but their cowboy heart told them to look again for a place where it wouldn’t simply be their business that was growing, but their career story as well – leading Cap to Salon Tagua as an obvious choice.
Rather than specializing in one look or another, Caprica’s talents lie in analysis and customization to create hyper-organic looks. They will take into account not only your hair dreams, but your hair texture, homecare and styling routine (Cap counts air drying as styling too), lifestyle, face shape, eye color and skin tone, to take your goals and suit them holistically to YOU!
Love geeking out as well? As an Aveda nerd for nearly a decade, Cap knows all there is to know about your favorite (or NEXT favorite) Aveda product – they will always consider your hair care and styling needs and recommend based off of what will help YOU achieve YOUR hair goals, things to make your morning routine easier – not harder. Caprica loves to give a good TED Talk, so sit back and enjoy the show, and leave knowing exactly how to care for your new style.
On Capitol Hill, they were known largely for their talent in sculpting customized craft shags, mullets, piecey French bobs and other unconventional rock and roll hairstyles. Their deepest love is for layering texture – from the lightest wave to the tightest curl – as the layers help to set your curls FREE! More volume, more bounce, more definition of curl and wave . . . the ritual of helping someone embrace their natural texture pattern is one of Caprica’s favorite practices.
Caprica built their Instagram following around hair color, and every tone they use is (as unnatural as it may be on human hair) inspired by nature in some way. When formulating their color combinations, Cap takes direction from different species of fine wood (mahogany, maple, birch…), animals (cheetahs, foxes, wolves, horses, your dog’s perfect chocolate-brown coat…), and stones or minerals (obsidian, garnet, tiger’s eye).
When working with Vivid fashion tones (colors that do not naturally appear in hair), Caprica continues to take cues from our planet’s original artist – Mama Nature. From precious gemstones to eye-catching flowers, butterflies to tropical birds and fish, sunsets and stormy skies, Caprica lives their life with eyes wide open to inspiration and beauty. Spend some time with Cap and you might just start going on hikes with your camera phone to look for hair inspiration rather than going on Pinterest!
Whether sculpture (cutting) or paint (color), Caprica is an artist with a vision of the future. They have a thriving imagination and will visualise/conceptualize your customized look – and with deft execution form vision into reality.
“Every block of stone has a statue inside it and
it is the task of the sculptor to discover it. . .
I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.”
-Michelangelo Buonarroti, painter/sculptor
Caprica hasn’t met you yet, but they already love you! Our founder of Aveda, Horst Rechelbacher, said that “Love lights up the cells” and Caprica lives by this observation. Cap’s mission is always to “romance” your hair, listen to what it NEEDS, and teach your hair to THRIVE in its own innate beauty through artful use of blade and paint. Every change is a collaboration, a beautiful puzzle which you and Cap assemble together and with full consent. Hybridizing your goals with their own knowledge of shape, color, physics, chemistry, and light; Caprica strives to deliver hair that speaks in your own words, whether that speech is whispering, talking, talking loudly, or outright yelling, it is your own voice and your own strength and aesthetic that carries it.
THE CAPRICA STANDARD
Your Hair: Runway Ready. Like no-one else’s, your locks are customized to you exclusively, and you feel more “like yourself” than you ever have before. Your hair is no longer “wearing” you, YOU are wearing your hair; it suits you and elevates your own self-image. It feels soft to the touch, and healthy.
Your Head: filled with new knowledge you are empowered to care for your hair at home, keeping it looking and feeling salon-fresh until your next visit. Clear, and refreshed, you feel rejuvenated and ready to take on anything!
Your Heart: brimming with self-love, confidence, and the lingering grin after a laugh that won’t quit . . . we had fun together today and you can’t wait to schedule your next hair party with me. Your chest thumps as you look in the mirror as you think how comfortable in your own skin you feel, and how lucky you are to be YOU, and not anyone else in the world. And maybe, you even feel like you made a new friend today.
These are my goals for your time with me – I can’t wait to meet you!
